Privacy Policy

Vowcher operates vowcher.gifts and decides how the personal data described here is used. For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete your data, write to hello@vowcher.gifts.

When you order: your name, email address, delivery and billing address, the promises you chose, any words you wrote on the cards, and your order history. Card details go straight to our payment processor; we never see or store a full card number.

When you make an account: your email address and password (stored hashed, never in the clear), plus any addresses you save.

About the person receiving the gift: if you give us a name, phone number or email address so they can be reached about their book, we hold it for that purpose only.

When you use the site: pages viewed and basic device information. Beyond what is strictly necessary to run the shop, this happens only if you agree to it. See cookies, below.

You may be reading this because someone bought you a book and gave us your phone number or email address. If so, we hold your name and that contact detail, and we use them for one thing: reaching you about that gift and passing your redemption requests to the person who gave it.

We do not add you to any marketing list, and we do not sell or share your details with advertisers. You can ask us to delete them at any time by writing to us, and we will.

To fulfil your order (printing, delivery, support, redemption): because we need to, to perform our contract with you.

To keep records and prevent fraud: because we have a legal obligation, and a legitimate interest in a shop that is not being defrauded.

For measurement and advertising: only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

To contact a gift recipient: our legitimate interest, and the giver's, in the gift actually arriving. We ask givers to confirm they have permission before sharing anyone's details.

Some cookies are strictly necessary and are always on: your region, your cart, your book in progress, and your light or dark theme. They do not track you across other sites.

Everything else is off until you say otherwise. We ask on your first visit and nothing is pre-ticked. There are two optional groups: measurement (Google Analytics, so we can see which pages people actually read) and advertising (Meta and TikTok, so we can tell whether an ad led to a gift).

You can change your answer whenever you like: use Cookie choices at the bottom of any page. Withdrawing consent stops those scripts loading from that moment on.

We share the minimum needed with the companies that help us run the shop: our commerce and content platforms, our payment processor, our print and delivery partners, our email provider, and our hosting and storage providers. They act on our instructions.

Analytics and advertising providers receive data only after you have consented to that category.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising except through the advertising cookies you have agreed to.

We are based in the United States and our providers may process data there and elsewhere. Where data moves out of the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

Order records: seven years, because tax and accounting rules require it. Account data: until you close your account. Recipient contact details: until the promises in that book have been redeemed or you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first.

Consent records are kept for six months, then we ask again.

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days.

In the UK and EEA you also have the right to object to or restrict processing, the right to portability, and the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

In California you have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

We will never ask you to pay to exercise any of them, and we will not treat you differently for doing so.

The shop is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. Children are often the recipients of these books, which is why we ask givers to be the point of contact and hold as little as possible about anyone else.

We may update this policy. The effective date above always shows the current version, and material changes will be announced on the site. Our terms of service sit alongside this document.
